7 Weeks, 1 Day

We went for the first pre-natal visit today. I'm 7 weeks and 1 day pregnant. So I miscalculated how they calculate the weeks because I thought this week would be the eighth week. But no biggie.

Since it was soo early the doctor couldn't perform that test where she listens for the heartbeat with a little speaker device. Instead she did a sonogram. And there was a heartbeat. It's official. I am pregnant.

Since now I'm of advanced maternal age, in other words, I'm over 35, the doctor talked to us about various screening tests we could do.

We've decided to go the nuchal translucency test, which tests for Down Syndrome, etc. It's basically a sonogram and a blood test that needs to be done between 11 and 13 weeks, and it has 95% accuracy rate. It's the first test one can do, and it seems to be the least invasive one.

Otherwise, yesterday was the first day that I felt really nauseous. It was cheese sandwiches all the way. Luckily today I feel better. I was a bit queasy but nothing as bad as yesterday. Yesterday was really bad.

The only other symptom I have is that my nose is already very stuffy. As the doctor said today, it's because of extra testosterone or progesterone, one of the two. I forget. I'm just very tired, and I'm about to go to bed now.
